Field Notes: Deeper, a dance for camera

In so many years of creating, I have lugged around all these artifacts from my creative processes. A nostalgic idea from Twyla Tharp I read about in her book The Creative Habit. I ran across a box full of items from a yearlong project with dancer and choreographer, Kathryn Eurich in Washington, D.C. that resulted in a dance for camera piece titled Deeper. From sample underwater photos to a shot list stained by water after it ironically blew into the swimming pool where we were filming, it includes all the papers, emails, and notes from the project. An interesting artifact in and of itself, at least to me. It reminds me that there is so much more than movement that goes into artmaking. I wonder if I’m still up for it. Here for it. Often, I want the product way more than I want to wade through the process and yet it’s the process that is wealthy and the journey that is a shelter for transformation.
